Marie Hahne (b. 1993, Berlin) is an interdisciplinary artist working across theatre, performance art, installation, and participatory formats. Her practice investigates ritual and play as embodied strategies for collective reflection and exploration.
By using everyday objects and site-specific materials, she creates immersive environments and accessible entry points that invite audiences to step closer, to listen, to touch, to move, shifting from passive observation into active engagement.
At the core of Hahne’s practice is an ongoing study of ritual and play as ways of engaging with the world.
«I am inspired by simple, everyday actions such as walking, writing, cooking, eating, or doing the laundry. These gestures may seem small, but they carry memory, habit, and shared knowledge. They speak of all the big things that happened, happen, and will happen around us, opening a way to approach them through action and experience before they become defined, politicized, or over-explained.»
By placing these moments into an artistic context, she opens up a different way of seeing and sensing them. Through simple, embodied play, the act of sharing a cup of coffee can take on the weight of a prayer, and practicing fire drills turns into a communal ritual.
For Hahne, art is not limited to theatres or galleries. It appears in small gestures, in quiet rhythms, in the spaces we move through every day.
What begins as play or curiosity often unfolds into deeper reflection on ecological, social, historical, or political realities. Through such encounters, entrenched perspectives are gently unsettled, and art becomes accessible beyond intellectual discourse.
